Educational movies for 8-9yr olds.
What is the site about? Aimed at young learners this site offers a multitude of animated movies reflecting various topics within a range of subject areas. Corresponding with each movie are quizzes, lesson ideas and games.
Why was it chosen as site of the week?
It was chosen because:
- The site targets areas of Science, Maths, Health, Social Studies, Reading, and Writing
- Currently, it is free while content is being developed
- Audio is available for all content areas to enable learners to access the site on a one-to-one level
- Each movie has a corresponding quiz, lesson plan or activity to reinforce learning and enhance thinking skills
- It contains a Big Word Wall that features vocabulary associated with the different subject areas
- Learners can send their artwork, lesson ideas or writings through the Bulletin Board section.
How can it be used as an educational resource?
Aside from integrating ICT and literacy these movies tie in with various strands of the primary school curriculum. Consider the following as a starting point:
- Select with a topic of interest to your class, e.g Migration
- Present the movie using a data-projector and pc with Internet connection.
- If you are a teacher/parent visit the "grown-up" section before you show the movie.
- Do each of the activities for assessment and reinforcement ensuring that the writing and drawing activites are done on an indvidual basis either on paper or online.
